YKF: Intermediate Syllabus

Following on from the Beginner Syllabus, the Intermediate Youth Syllabus is split into three components organised into a rotation system of three terms.
– Student Grades: 5-8
– T-shirt Colour: Green

Term 1: Starts January, Grading: March
Term 2: Starts April, Grading: July
Summer Training: Starts July, Grading: August (SG4, SG8 and SG12 only)
Term 3: Starts September, Grading: December

Grading will be: Tuesday 2nd July – Saturday 13th July

  1. Form
The last five sections of the Wing Chun form, Siu Nim Tao, is divided over the 4 Intermediate grades and is a foundational training method that instils crucial principles, techniques, and muscle memory into practitioners.
    – The Form component of the Intermediate syllabus is grade specific, and so is outside of the termly rotation system. Check out the Siu Nim Tao course for more details.

  2. Self Defence
The Self Defence component focuses on developing sensitivity, reflexes, and adaptability through a variety of tactile drills and self defence exercises; what happens once contact is made.
    – This term we are focusing on: Anti-Grappling. Click here for details.

  3. Theory
All students need to know what the Wing Chun Ground Strategy, Wing Chun Strategy and the Law on Self Defence are by Grade 8.
    – This term we are focussing on the UK law for Self Defence. Check out the YKF: Theory course for more details.

Grade 8 is a Revision Grade where you will demonstrate all the material from the previous seven grades to a higher standard. Grade 8 also includes a Pressure Test which takes different aspects from the syllabus and combines them with pad work in an exercise aimed at putting you and your Wing Chun under pressure.
