This course is designed for anyone who hasn’t trained Escrima Concepts before (or in a long while), to teach you all the basic Attacks and Defences you’ll need to take part in any of the other Beginner courses.
Here you’ll find tutorials on the basic trikes and targets, as well as how to defend those strikes. There are also a series of stick and unarmed warm up exercises that work on simple moving and striking.
The Escrima Concepts System
Escrima Concepts (EC) is based around a structured syllabus of 9 Student Grades followed by 4 Technician or Advanced Grades.
Beginner Grades, 1-3
These Grades introduce you to the basic attacks and defences that underpin the system, both single stick and unarmed, attacking and defending.
Intermediate Grades, 4-6
Here you develop your double stick skills, along with looking at disarms, controls, locks, takedowns, interfering, and pressuring what you’ve learn’t in the Beginner Grades.
Senior Grades, 6-9
This is where you work on transitioning your stick and unarmed skills to a other weapons and environments/situations. You will start to train with and against tonfa, knives, and palm sticks (solo and combined with sticks and unarmed) to introduce different strategies and movements. You will also change the context of your situation – training in a corridor, on the stairs, from a chair, and also against multiple attackers.
Technician Grades
The Advanced Level looks at staff, machetes, and other connected weapons, both for their own sake as well as how understanding their use can improve your stick and unarmed training.
The Beginner Syllabus course has details of what’s in each grade, however it is unlikely to make much sense until you start training the exercises.
