Chi Sau is a term used in Wing Chun Kung Fu to describe a type of training exercise that is designed to develop sensitivity and reflexes in close-range combat. The term “Chi Sau” can be translated as “sticky hands” or “clinging arms”, and refers to the way in which the exercise involves both practitioners maintaining contact with each other’s arms throughout the exercise.

In Chi Sau training, two practitioners engage in a series of drills that involve a variety of hand movements, strikes, and defences. The goal of the exercise is to develop the ability to sense and respond to an opponent’s movements in real-time, without relying on visual cues. By practicing Chi Sau, practitioners can develop lightning-fast reflexes, as well as a deep understanding of their own body mechanics and those of their opponent.

Chi Sau is a core component of Wing Chun training, and is considered essential for the development of high-level skills in this martial art. It requires a great deal of practice and dedication, but the benefits to a practitioner’s fighting ability and overall physical conditioning can be significant.
